XtraTime Pilot Episode — Chris Penny
September 1, 2024
Chris Penny’s soccer journey began in England where he played for Derby County, Grimsby Town, and Doncaster Rovers before coming to the U.S. to continue his career at Lock Haven University from 1992 to 1996. Chris earned All-Conference honors all four years, was a two-time All-American, and twice named an Academic All-American. He captained the Bald Eagles for two seasons, helping lead the team to four straight conference finals and an NCAA Tournament Elite Eight run as a freshman.
Following college, Chris turned professional — becoming the first player ever drafted by the Philadelphia KiXX in the National Professional Soccer League. He went on to play for the Hampton Roads Mariners in Virginia Beach and then spent four seasons with the Hershey Wildcats, serving as captain for two of those years and ranking among the club’s all-time leaders in minutes played.
After hanging up his boots, Chris earned his Ph.D. from Penn State and is now a professor at West Chester University. He remains deeply connected to the game and plays men’s league twice a week. He is a proud father of three boys who share his love for soccer.
